Kansas City is the most competitive market in the country for internet. Why? Because we have more carriers than any other city, and the most aggressive pricing. Multiple carriers provide high-speed fiber and coax internet for businesses across the metro, so how does a customer know who is actually in the building, what lead time is, construction costs (if any), and what supplier actually performs?
TeamKC has the insights! This is determined with a conversation about your businesses’ bandwidth needs, how much redundancy is needed, ensuring compliance requirements are met, and of course, budget.
Dedicated vs. Broadband Internet for Business
- Dedicated internet access: a connection reserved solely for your business, with no other users sharing the line. That’s what makes symmetrical speeds and guaranteed bandwidth possible, backed by an SLA. It costs more, but the guarantee holds up.
- Broadband: a connection shared with other businesses and homes on the same infrastructure. That’s what keeps the cost down, but it’s also why there’s no real performance guarantees because you’re splitting bandwidth during peak hours.
Neither is automatically the right or wrong choice. It depends on what happens to your business the moment the connection drops. The carrier at the office down the block might not run fiber to yours at all, and the one advertising the fastest speeds in your area might be the wrong fit for how your business operates.
Most importantly, when a client works directly with a carrier, you are paying more money. Why? Because when you work directly with the carrier, you are paying for that rep’s salary, benefits, 401K, and most importantly, their quota. TeamKC has no quota with any supplier, and consultants like myself are the only ones who can sell floor pricing. On top of that, we project manage the entire install process, freeing up client’s time for other projects.
The Question Nobody Asks Until the Internet Goes Down
Redundancy matters as much as speed, and almost nobody thinks about it until an outage takes the whole operation offline. A network built with failover and carrier diversity reroutes traffic automatically. One built without it means every outage becomes a full stop until somebody notices and starts making calls.
How TeamKC Answers This Question for Clients
When reviewing high-speed internet solutions, I start with what’s available at the address. From there I compare providers on performance, pricing, and contract terms. This means while most businesses get one quote, assume it’s competitive, and sign without ever finding out what else was on the table, TeamKC clients get to review the top competing options to make an informed decision for their business.
